Pregnancy Calendar Week 27
Your Baby Growth and Development
This week marks the beginning of the third trimester.Your baby is about 2 pounds and 14.5 inches long. It is is slowly rotating in preparation to “head out.” When you start to feel an unfamiliar pressure on your cervix, you’ll know you’ve got a fully flipped baby locked and loaded for the countdown to their birthday! The lungs and brain are continuing their development. their little lungs are already capable of breathing air while the pulmonary vascular system can provide sufficient gas exchange and the central nervous system can generally regulate rhythmic breathing as well as their basal body temperature.
Your baby’s skin is quite wrinkled from floating in water. It will stay this way until a few weeks after birth as your newborn fills out into a baby. he eye lids will open, the retina develops its normal layers by the 27th week of gestation. As your baby’s hearing continues to develop, she may start to recognize your voice as well as your partner’s.
The lanugo has started to disappear and is now only visible on the head and shoulders. It’s also quite common for your baby to have frequent hiccups during this time.
Mom during Pregnancy Calendar Week 27
You’ve finally reached the infamous “live-on-the-toilet” stage. Your feet are bigger, your breasts are bigger as milk production is kicking in, your belly is bigger as your baby is bigger—and something’s gotta give. You’ve worked hard, dig in for the final endurance round and say hello again to the familiar but not-so-lovable faces of fatigue and nausea. Your (“yaaaawn”) fatigue stems from several factors, including the proverbial weight gain, shortness of breath and of course, sleep deprivation.
In your third trimester it is important to recognize the signs of premature labor. Research shows that premature labor is more common in some women in the summer months than other times of year due to dehydration. Be sure to continue to drink plenty of fluids.
If you have any of the following, be sure to call your doctor right away:
• Bright red blood from your vagina
• Sudden gush of clear, watery fluid from your vagina

• Dull backache, usually in the lower back
• Contractions or bad cramps (especially if more than 5 in one hour)

How to make sure that the crib you bought is safe?
The crib is where your baby will spend a lot of their time,so that it is important to make sure that they are safe.
Following are some questions you maybe interesting in:
How should I put my baby to sleep in his crib?
Place your baby on his back or on his side for sleeping. Use one piece sleepers rather than blankets. Your baby could slip under the blanket and possibly suffocate. Remove all pillows and toys as well, in order to prevent suffocation.
Are there safety standards for baby cribs?
Yes, in 1974 it was made law that cribs should no longer be painted with lead based paint. The slats of the crib must be no more than 2 3/8 inches apart, this is to prevent your baby from getting his body or head stuck between the bars causing injury or strangulation. The side bar should be 26 inches above the mattress when it is in its lowest position. If your child is more than an inch taller than the sidebar it is time to move him into a regular bed.
when it’s time to lower the mattress?
When your baby becomes more active, when s/he begins to pull himself to a standing position or when he sits up alone it will be time to lower the mattress to prevent your little one from either climbing out or falling out.
What can I do to keep my baby’s crib safe?
In order to keep your babyb s a safe place, you should make sure to all connections are secure and that there are no broken or missing parts. Regularly, check the teething rail for splits or cracks. Make sure the mattress spring support and your crib will withstand your baby’s increasing mobility. The mattress itself should have no splits, tears, or holes.
Is a mesh sided crib safe to use for my baby?
Yes, a mesh crib is safe provided the mesh is less than 1/4 inch in size, smaller than a tiny button on babyb s clothes. The should be rips, tears, or loose threads. If staples are used to attach the mesh they must not be exposed and the mesh must be securely attached to the top rail and the floor plate.

Something that preys on many pregnant moms’ minds… what if I go into labor somewhere remote? Or in a traffic jam? Or on an airplane? Going into labor on a plane is unusual, mostly because airlines restrict when pregnant women can fly.
Whaf funny is that there’s a UN ruling that babies born on international flights, and on ships sailing in international waters, the baby receives the nationality of the country in which the airplane was registered in. So Alfie is a British citizen. But if he was born on a Greek plane, he’d have dual British/Greek citizenship.
Why is blood iron levels so important during pregnancy?
One of the first tests that your doctor or midwife will do early in the first trimester, is to check blood iron levels and again during the second trimester to determine that iron levels are staying normal during the pregnancy. if a woman’s iron levels are low, her doctor or midwife will prescribe an iron supplement for her to take during pregnancy. For there have been some studies done over the past few years which suggest that low iron levels in a mother during pregnancy can affect the child’s mental development in negative ways.
Foods high in iron include meats, egg yolks, dried beans or peas, green leafy vegetables, dried fruits, nuts and grains. Besides the iron suppllement pills, a woman can eat more foods that are naturally high in iron during her pregnancy in order to increase the iron levels. Foods coming from animals (the meat and eggs) have higher levels of iron in them than the foods coming from vegetables. If you are consuming mostly vegetables to get your iron, avoid tea while eating them because the tea can prevent or reduce iron absorption. Adding Vitamin C to your meals will also help increase the amount of iron that is absorbed into your body.
